Theater in Greater Boston

Boston has functioned as a site of colonialist histories and revolution, a site of harbor for refugees, and as home to a complicated legacy of racial and class-based injustice. Tufts University is located on colonized Wôpanâak (Wampanoag) and Massachusett Tribe traditional territory. Tufts Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies invites graduate students to think about the ways in which this major American geographic center performs multiple identities for divergent audiences. Additionally, the city is home to many theatres invested in civically engaged and socially provocative performance. Proximity to Cambridge and Boston enables students to work with the archives at the Harvard Theatre Collection, Boston Public Library, the American Antiquarian Society and numerous other archives, theatres, and museums in New England. Additionally, students have easy and affordable access to trains, planes and buses to New York City and Philadelphia.
