Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice

Read the Department Statement in response to the pandemic of racism in the United States.

The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies strives to create an Anti-Racist curriculum, decentering traditional theatrical canons in order to illuminate how social and cultural formations — particularly gender, race, indigeneity, ethnicity, sexuality, colonization and class — inform performances both on and off stage. We acknowledge the historical marginalization of women, BIPOC, LBGTQIA+ people, and individuals with disabilities. We are committed to sustaining an inclusive community that gives voice to social justice.

We welcome students from underrepresented communities, and we believe that people of color, disabled people, queer folks, transgender populations, and first-generation students produce new ways of looking and knowing that facilitate thinking and working in a diverse classroom.
