We aspire to be a program that is global in scope and our work is immeasurably enriched by a diverse student body with a wide range of identities, abilities, and experiences.
Thanks to our excellent training and a strong alumni network, TDPS graduates find work as directors, actors, choreographers, designers, arts administrators, and more. Many of them use their TDPS education as a springboard to advanced degrees in the arts: over the past decade, seniors have gained admission to prestigious graduate programs at the Yale School of Drama, Columbia University, the Juilliard School, NYU's Tisch School for the Arts, Northwestern University, and the Webber-Douglas Academy (London), among others.
But it’s not just in the arts where our alums are thriving: we are proud that our alums are making an impact in a variety of fields, including law, education, engineering, health, public relations, community organizing, and the nonprofit sector. Alums report that the skills they learned in TDPS–such as collaboration, creative problem-solving, and working to deadline–have served them well, no matter what career path they’ve chosen.

No! Most of our courses are open to everyone regardless of experience level, and anyone in the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, or SMFA can become a major or minor.

No! Our auditions are open to all students and we regularly cast non-majors in leading roles in both plays and dance concerts.

Very easy! Our major and minors are designed to be flexible to accommodate a wide range of student interests. Over 94% of our majors and minors are double majors in other fields and 15% are students at the SMFA and School of Engineering.

No, portfolios are not part of the application and admissions process for the BA or BS degree.

Admissions
The application process does not require an audition or interview; tapes and portfolios are not accepted. On a visit to the campus, you are welcome to observe Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies classes and meet with a faculty member. Arrangements should be made in advance through the Department Office, by calling 617-627-3524, or you can email the Department Administrator.
